BULGARIA – STEPHAN KOMANDAREV
Stephan studied directing at the New Bulgarian University in Sofia, took part in the number of workshops and trainings either at home or abroad.
The film The Balloon, 1997 won Public Award on International Film Schools Festival “Henri Langois”, Poitiers, France, in 1997. The piece of art has been presented in program of International Film Festival of the Medditeranian Cinema, Montpellier, France, 1997. Mr. Komandarev was awarded on the Student Film Festival in 1997.
The film Dog’s Home, 2000 was successfully presented on 51st Berlin Film Festival, International Forum of New Cinema, “Golden Rose” Film Festival, Montreal World Film Festival, 7th Sarajevo Film Festival, Festival International du Film de Quebec, Black Nights International Film Festival, and Warsaw International Film Festival.
The film Bread over the Fence, 2002 won Best East European Documentary Film Award on International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Films, 2002.
The film Alphabet of hope, 2003 has been presented in official competition IDFA, Amsterdam, 2003. Film won Best Documentary Film Award at GoEast Festival of Central and Eastern European Film, Wiesbaden, Germany, 2004.
The film The World is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner, 2008 already won 20 international awards: Sofia International Film Festival, Annual Cinema Prize of the European Parliament, Karlovy Vary Film Festival, Zurich Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival “Coolpolitics”, “Golden Rose” Film Festival, Warsaw International Film Festival, Bergen International Film Festival, Mar del Plata Film Festival, Tallinn International Film Festival “Black Nights”, Vilnius International Film Festival, Almaty International Film Festival, Taipei International Film Festival, International Film Summerfest Durres. Furthermore, we should mention that the film took part in competition program on 22 festivals.
His film “The town of badante women”, 2009 participated in competition program on festivals: Dokufest, 2010, Internazionale a Ferrara Festival, 2010, Bratislava IFF, 2010.
The film The Judgment, 2014 won 9 international awards: Best Bulgarian Feature Film, Best Actor, Best Film, Best Director, Best cinematography, Best screenplay, Best supporting female role Grand jury prize for Best narrative Feature and has took part in festivals competitions: Sofia International Film Festival, Jameson Golden Blend, Warsaw Film Festival, Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival, SEE a Paris, Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Palm Springs Film Festival, PriFilm Fest.
His last film “Directions” had his world premiere in “Un certain regard” official selection, Cannes film festival 2017. The film is selected also in Toronto IFF, Sarajevo IFF, Black nights Tallinn film festival and HaiFA IFF.
